(Updated 1:37 p.m.) The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board has ordered ABS-CBN to attend a mandatory conference called to tackle alleged gender insensitivity in the network's reality show "Pinoy Big Brother."

In a post on its Twitter account, the MTRCB said the conference will be on Wednesday, June 11.

The MTRCB said it was "alarmed" over alleged gender-insensitivity in that part of the show.

Earlier, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) voiced alarm over the program where a female contestant was reportedly compelled to pose nude for a painting.

PCW, in a statement on its website, referred to the show's June 4 episode where one of the contestants was challenged to pose nude for a painting.

"PCW sees nothing wrong with women posing nude for art but it should be a woman's free choice to do so," it said, adding the episode "showed the broadcast media’s coldhearted perpetuation of exploitation of women on national TV."

The PCW asked the MTRCB to "look into the said episode and take necessary actions therefrom."

"No individual, television show or entity has the right to cause discrimination, insecurity, discomfort, offense or humiliation to any woman," the PCW also said.

Ethical breaches?

Two lady senators also criticized the reality show for supposedly "compromising" the dignity of its women contestants.

Senator Nancy Binay said she plans to file a resolution this week urging the MTRCB to look into possible ethical breaches committed by the show.

"This might be a reality show but its contestants, especially its female housemates, should be accorded with respect without compromising their dignity and their rights as women," Binay said in a statement.

She added that the reality show's rule book should also be reviewed.

Senator Pia Cayetano, for her part, said the program's producers should not wait for the MTRCB and issue a public apology immediately.

""This is an assault to the dignity of the women housemates. Asking a woman to consider posing nude in such a situation—where her acceptance to perform the challenge is made in exchange for points or benefits for herself or her housemates—is tantamount to coercion," Cayetano said in a separate statement.

She also reminded the show's producers of the Magna Carta of Women, which encourages the non-derogatory portrayal of women in media.
