The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board has put a tight leash on ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Big Brother: All-In Edition” following a mandatory conference on Wednesday with network executives and the show’s creative team.
The conference was called by the MTRCB as a result of the show’s controversial episode last week where female housemates Jayme Jalandoni and Michelle Gumabao to pose for a nude painting session.
The controversy caught the attention of two lady senators. Nancy Binay urged the MTRCB to look into the matter and Pia Cayetano demanded a public apology from the show’s producers.
The conference was also attended by resource persons from the Ateneo Human Rights Center and the Philippine Commission on Women, the agency that first raised the issue last week.
After the conference, the MTRCB issued an order which it promptly summarized in several tweets on its official Twitter account.
Following the MTRCB’s order — a copy of the full text of which was also posted on its Twitter account — ABS-CBN issued its promised public apology on “its early evening news program “TV Patrol” and on “PBB: All-In”.
“While the objective of the week-long task was to see how the housemates would react to a test of their convictions and values, and was not intended to disrespect the rights of any housemate, the producers wish to convey their sincerest apologies to those who were offended, and assure the public and the MTRCB that the program will continue to ensure the protection of women’s rights in general, and housemates’ rights in particular, while providing quality and yet gender and audience-sensitive entertainment to its audiences worldwide,” went the network’s statement.
In its latest tweet, the MTRCB acknowledged the public apology made by the network.
Netizens were quick to weigh in on ABS-CBN’s apology.
